Manageability and portability—carrying a block or two with you to piece and quilt wherever and whenever you have time—is the heart of Carolyn’s quilting-on-the-go techniques.

Now, in her new book, prompted by questions from students wanting more after they learned the basics, Carolyn gives you new ideas and options including:

  • Designing an array of new frames for sashing favorite blocks-on-the-go
  • Showing you how to add borders to the quilts
  • Adding more block sizes so you can create a quilt with blocks as small as 6" or as large as 25"
  • Giving suggestions on sewing blocks together and then quilting more than one block at a time
  • Choosing blocks that don’t need borders

Choose one of the 11 new projects (complete instructions and illustrations provided) and enjoy the freedom of quilting-on-the-go.

And, for the first time, Carolyn shows you how to piece and quilt borders-on-the-go.

The Quilter (UK): Winter, 2014

‘Quilting-on-the-go’ is simply a technique for quilting your project in small units which can then be joined to complete the quilt. Some quilters enjoy using this method as the units are a manageable size, which is great for honing machine-quilting skills, and are portable, so if you’re hand quilting your work can go wherever you do! Carolyn’s first book Quilting-on-the-Go proved very popular, so this follow-up, as the title suggests, takes things further, including sashing/frames and borders. The first half of the book covers the basics, including a well-illustrated section on joining your quilted units. This is followed by eleven traditional projects, from runners and table toppers to large quilts.

Barbara Rhoades: July, 2014

I was all set for a new way to quilt on the go. Then I found out that this book is really about quilt AS you go. I have been doing that for many years and I thought I might learn a new technique. I didn’t but it did make for a good review of what I already knew.

There are a dozen projects including table runners, table toppers and quilts. There are over 50 pages on how to get started with this technique. It even includes how to make a string quilt from your scraps.

The projects have a colored photo of the finished item and a small paragraph about it to begin the instructions. Finished block and item size are listed. Fabric requirements and cutting lists are set off in a colored box.

Graphics are included with the written instructions to make sure you are on the right path. If templates are needed, they are included at full size so no need to run out to the copier.

The book ends with a two paragraph bio of the author. I always love to read about who wrote the book. If you are new to this technique, this would be a good book to add to your library.

The Midwest Book Review—Wisconsin Bookwatch: June, 2014

Quilting-on-the-Go: Taking It Further draws upon the time-friendly technique of creating large quilts by breaking them down into more manageable sections, as originally revealed in author Carolyn Forster's previous book titled Quilting-on-the-Go, and takes the methodology to the next level. Topics covered include how to make blocks in multiple sizes, break down borders and sashings/frames into smaller pieces that can be created anywhere, and how to join independent pieces into a beautiful whole. Eleven projects in a variety of sizes from 6" to 25 1/2", step-by-step instructions clearly illustrated with full-color photographs and diagrams, and a user-friendly introduction make Quilting-on-the-Go: Taking It Further a choice pick for any quilter seeking to refine their skill and working knowledge!

´╗┐Quilters' Digest: February, 2014´╗┐

You also will learn how to add more block sizes, from 6" to 25". It’s all manageable and portable for quilters-on-the-go!
