Hexagons are hot right now in quilting. Also popular is the quilt as you go method of finishing a quilt.
This book provides both. The book begins with the author’s bio and an explanation of this new technique. Then the author shows you a quick and easy technique for creating a hexagon quilt using two sizes of fabric and one hexagonal piece of batting. Once you have both hexagons folded, you sew the smaller one on top of the larger one with a stitch of your choice. This makes one finished quilt block.
The book contains a page about tools and techniques, then comes the how-to on creating the hexagons in two sizes. These can be finished by machine or hand sewing. There are four patterns and five templates which are ready to use without enlarging. Also on the template page is a URL for additional projects for this technique.
I couldn’t wait to try this technique so I tried the large size. As I am a miser with fabric, I wondered if it would work with a circle smaller than 10” for the large one. I found I could use an 8” circle. Granted the fabric doesn’t completely cover the center of this hexie but since I am putting a smaller hexie over it, in my opinion, it didn’t matter. The point is the author has shown me how to create these cute blocks. Without this book, I would never have thought to create them. The fact that they are finished (no more quilting is needed) when sewn together is an added benefit.
If you are hexie crazy, this is a must have book for your library.
