Quilter, artist, author, and instructor Janet Pittman takes you on a creative journey with 14 colorful projects that incorporate dozens of kid-friendly motifs (like butterflies, princesses, bulldozers, and dump trucks). Her book features six main quilt themes, along with ideas for coordinating projects, all of which can be customized for a specific child. There are several “Be Creative” sidebars sprinkled throughout, which offer ideas for using the corresponding designs to personalize and embellish quilts. This is more than just a project book. Janet brings children into the sewing room. From the initial drawing stage to color and fabric selection and playing with shapes and blocks, kids enjoy the creative process (and the quilts become even more special as a result). Full-size patterns are included with step-by-step instructions and embellishing techniques. There is even a wonderful chapter that features detailed machine-stitching appliqué for better corners, curves, and points, and using artwork, photos, heat-bondable fibers, crystals, and beads to add character and sparkle.
