R. Chandler, L. Kettle, H. Thomas, L. Vlcek
Ruth Chandler grew up in Japan where the vibrant color and texture of Japanese fabric combined with the simplicity of Japanese design caught Ruth’s attention. Ruth learned basic Sashiko from an elderly neighbor and
at the age of 10 she began to create and sew her own clothes which became an outlet for her imagination and creativity.
Ruth made her first quilt in 1990—a queen size hand-appliquéd and hand-quilted Hawaiian pineapple quilt, and she has never looked back. In her own unique style, she loves to use new techniques mingled with the old and her work usually shows the influence of her years spent in Japan.
Ruth lives in Colorado with her very supportive husband of 31 years. She has a daughter and son, both married, and 3 beautiful grandchildren. Ruth may be

Liz Kettle is a fabric and mixed media artist with a passion for teaching others the joy of making art and the creative process. After filling her tool box with the skills for success in the traditional quilting arena she began to delve into art quilting and discovered a world of freedom and fun in mixed media.
Liz’s eclectic work is influenced by her beautiful surroundings, the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and her love of vintage textiles and history. She incorporates layers and found objects to tell stories of the land and people. When she isn’t creating visual art, Liz writes about creativity and the creative process. She is the founder of Textile Evolution, a unique retreat (www.textileevolution.com).
Liz lives in Colorado with her very supportive husband and three amazing sons who are just beginning their own journeys.
Heather Thomas began quilting over 23 years ago, taking a turn toward art quilting around the year 2000. She self-publishes her line of more than 100 patterns under the name Wild Heather Designs. She has been teaching her designs and techniques for over 15 years and, for the past 10 years, has taught a 13-month color and design class during which she has worked with more than 2,000 aspiring artists.
Creating art is Heather’s driving force, her reason for being here, her love and her passion. It is her hope to inspire her students to creative freedom and help them discover their possibilities.
Heather is the mother of two grown girls and married Tom, her new best friend, in the summer of 2007. She and her husband own a quilt shop, Wild Heather, in Englewood, Colorado and an internet store, wildheatherdesigns.com.
